No. APLS programs welcome complete beginners. Children build language skills through immersion and instruction, so no prior Chinese or Japanese knowledge is required.
APLS serves children from age 2½ in preschool through high-school age for AP preparation, depending on the program. See Programs for details.
A typical early-years day balances free-choice activities, immersive language arts, group learning through art, science, and music, outdoor play, meals and snacks, and rest or quiet time. The exact rhythm varies by program and age group.
Formal homework is not assigned in the early years. We encourage families to support learning through reading, conversation, and everyday life skills so children can keep their curiosity alive without added pressure. Expectations for older students vary by class.
No. When a half-day option is offered, its schedule is fixed from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Families cannot choose custom arrival or departure hours. Half-day availability varies by program.
Weekday program hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Extended care is available until 6:00 p.m. Individual class and program hours vary.
APLS offers year-round, rolling enrollment when space is available. Contact the school and we will help you find an appropriate program and start date.
Yes. APLS partners with a catering company to offer optional fresh, balanced meals prepared with young children in mind. Families may choose the catered lunch or send lunch from home.
Yes. APLS is an accredited private school licensed by the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and its learning center is a licensed childcare center. APLS is an independent non-profit.
Student safety is our top priority. We use secure entry protocols, trained staff, and clearly defined emergency procedures. Classrooms are designed for visibility and supervision, and low student-to-teacher ratios support attentive care.
APLS averages approximately one teacher for every six students. Exact staffing may vary by program, class size, and student needs.
